When The Incredibles came out in 2004, it instantly became one of my son Marco’s favorite movie. Marco was barely more than a year old, but he instantly fell in love with it. By the time Sebastián was born (in 2005) everyone in the family was able to recite all the lines. I must have seen the movie thousands of times.
One of my favorite characters is, without a doubt, Edna Mode. She has so little screen time, but all her interactions are so awesome that I can’t help but refer to her teachings.
This is what I have learned from the oh-so-wise Edna.
I never look back, darling. It distracts form the now – Each day is precious. You can’t live your life thinking about what was, what wasn’t, what could have been. If your head is full of yesterday, you will never be able to concentrate in today.
No capes! – If something is only for show, ornamental and it does not serve a practical purpose in your life, you probably don’t need it.
Words are useless! Gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble! – At some point we have to stop talking and start doing.
Luck favors the prepared – You can pray and hope for good things to happen to you, but luck also needs a little bit of help. If you are prepared to deal with a situation, chances are that the outcome will be better for you than if you just wing it.
Go, confront the problem. Fight! Win! – No problem has ever been solved by pretending it doesn’t exist. You have to face your problems head on.
What have you learned from this incredibly awesome character?
