One of my favorite Disney movies is, without a doubt, Finding Nemo. I love all the characters, the story and everything it teaches us. But I have to say that my favorite character in the whole movie is Crush, the sea turtle.
Crush is so awesome with a cool surfer dude attitude but he is very insightful. My whole family just loves him to death and we had such a great time in our last trip to Epcot when Marco and Sebastián were able to meet Crush and talk to him. Sebastián was even allowed to ask him a question. He was ecstatic.
Like I mentioned before, I find Crush to be very insightful and wise. I have learned a lot from him, particularly as a parent. Let me share with you what Crush has taught me.
The little dudes are just eggs, we leave ’em on a beach to hatch, and then, coo-coo-cachoo, they find their way back to the big ol’ blue – You have to trust your children to be able to survive on their own when the time comes. All that we (parents) can do is teach them and give them the tools to succeed, but after that, we need to let them prove themselves.
Whoa, Dude. Mister Turtle is my father – No matter how old you are, the Mr/Mrs title will always make you think about your parents. And your children think the exact same way.
You so totally rock, Squirt! – It’s always a good time to praise your children and build their self-esteem.
Hundred and fifty, and still young, dude. Rock on – You are as young as you feel. Remember to have fun. It will be a lot easier for your children to relate if they don’t see you as a dinosaur from another era.
Well, you never really know, but when they know, you know, y’know? – You never really know for sure that your children are ready for a particular challenge, but you still have to trust them.
Whoa. Kill the motor, dude. Let us see what Squirt does flying solo – There is a possibility… not, a probability that our children will make mistakes. However, we have to let them make their own mistakes. That is the only way they will learn.
What have you learned from this awesomely cool character?
